Il Foglio is an Italian daily newspaper known for its strong focus on culture, literature, and contemporary debate. Its supplement Review explores visual culture and long-form editorial storytelling through essays, interviews, and illustrated features.
For one of its issues, I created an illustration centered on the unsettling experience of losing orientation inside a forest. What begins as a quiet and bucolic landscape gradually turns into a dense and oppressive space, where depth disappears and every direction becomes uncertain.
The composition was designed through a compressed vertical structure of overlapping trees, creating a feeling of visual disorientation. At the center of the scene, a young woman searches for a way through the woods while a mysterious fox-like creature appears above her — an ambiguous presence suspended between guide and illusion.
